Abstract
912,509. Speed-responsive switches. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. June 13, 1960 [July 13, 1959], No. 20644/60. Class 38 (5). In a centrifugal switch mechanism two switches are actuated in succession in response to two predetermined speeds. In the mechanism, flyweights 32, pivoted on a flange 34 of hub 28, rotate with a shaft 30 and exert an axial force on the hub, causing it to move upwards and engage the outer race of bearing 50 so as to cause axial movement of an actuator 54 in which are pins 58 which engage recesses 60 in a floating lever 62. The lever co-operates with coil springs 70, 72 of different strengths which are mounted on brackets 76, 78 which also carry switches 88, 90. At a predetermined speed actuator 54 causes the floating lever to pivot about spring 72 and overcome spring 70, so engaging the operating plunger 92 of switch 88. At a higher speed the opposition of spring 72 is also overcome and switch 90 is operated. A tachometer may be driven by the shaft. More than two switches may be employed.
