Abstract

765,720. Centrifugal governors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. March 4, 1955 [March 4, 1954], No. 6485/55. Class 57. [Also in Group XXXVII] A centrifugally operated mechanism comprises a spring 47 having a main coiled body 48 and radially extending ends 50, 51 connected to two members 25, 35 mounted for rotation with a shaft 10, one of the members 25 being axially slidable along the shaft, and the main body 48 of the spring being arranged to swing away from the shaft 10 above a predetermined speed and to be returned by its own spring bias below that speed, thus producing momentary axial motions of the member 25. A switch (see Group XXXVII) for the starting winding of an induction motor is actuated by the movements of the member 25 which is slidably splined to the shaft 10 and provided with seats 34 to receive transverse portions on the ends 51. Similar portions on the ends 50 are held by transverse channels 44 formed by fingers on the member 35 which is press fitted to the shaft 10.
