[Also in Groups XXIV and XXXVII] A centrifugal device has inertia delay means to ensure that an electric switch is not operated thereby until the drive shaft has attained its normal running speed. The drive shaft 10 has an axial bore 58 in which a bushing 56 is clamped by a collar and screw 62, 64. A flange 12 is fixed to the bushing 56 while another flange 22 is secured to a pin 54 freely rotatable in the bushing. When shaft 10 is started and accelerates to normal speed, the flange 22 by virtue of its inertia lags behind, and hence balls 32 engaged between the flanges 12, 22 are only subjected to full centrifugal force after a delay, whereupon they move outwardly and force flange 22 to open the switch 66.
