Abstract
707,336. Centrifugal switches. ADLINGTON, L. Aug. 22, 1952 [March 19, 1952], No. 7039/52. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXXV] A centrifugal switch unit, primarily for the control of an electric lighting set having a generator driven by a prime mover (see Group XXXV), has a flywheel 3 driven through a freewheel 4 from the prime mover, so that the inertia of the flywheel is able to maintain the switch unit in its operated condition after the prime mover has started to run down. The unit has mercury switches 21, 22 carried on a spindle 18 pivoted on a pillar 16 and held in the position shown by a lever 25 against the bias of a spring 29. When the prime mover is started and reaches the speed at which the switches are to be operated, weights 6 pivoted on the flywheel 3 move outwards and move a sleeve 10 against the bias of a spring 12 along a boss 11 on the flywheel. The sleeve 10 withdraws a face plate 13, so that pressure is no longer applied through a push rod 28 to the lever 25 and the spring 29 is able to turn the spindle 18 and the lever 25, the switches 21, 22 being tilted into their operated positions.
