Abstract

716,913. Centirifugal switches. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. April 28,1952 [May 2, 1951], No. 10575/52. Class 38(5) In a centrifugal switch such as that of Specification 603,371, the centrifugal weight 63 is accurately positioned relative to a switch actuating member 50 by means of a sleeve 72 rotatable with. but axially adjustable on, the shaft 25. In Fig. 1 the weight is supported on a radially projecting rod 60 secured to the sleeve 72 and extending through a slot in the shaft 25 to couple the sleeve to the shaft for rotation therewith. The sleeve is biased axially by a spring 76 into abutting engagement with a washer 71 carried in a cup 70 rigidly secured in an end plate 22, the washer being so dimensioned as to provide the correct positioning of the weight relative to the member 50. In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown) the sleeve is biased into abutting engagement with washers on the shaft which abut the inner race' of a ball bearing. In Fig. 3, the sleeve is locked on to the shaft by a screw 221, washers 271 being disposed between the sleeve and the rotor 224 of a motor to determine the positioning of the weight.
