Abstract
667,445. Centrifugal switches. SCHEID, A. M., SCHEID, E. M., and SCHEID, W. M., (trading as VORWERK & CO.). May 11, 1950. [May 27, 1949] No. 11780/50. Class 38 (v). A switch, especially for cutting out the starting windings of a motor at a certain speed, comprises a stationary plate 7 carrying a two-part slip-ring 8 co-operating with carbon brushes 17 carried by U-section pendulums 18 pivoted at 22 to a rotatable flange 12, the legs 181 of the pendulums embracing the flange so as to be guided thereby and the brushes moving in recesses 16 in the flange. The brushes are secured between the legs 18<SP>1</SP> at the closed ends of the pendulums by pins 20 and are normally urged into engagement with the slip-ring 8 by a tension spring 23 engaging the heads of pins 20, 22. The flange 12 is integral with a cup-shaped member 11 secured to an insulating sleeve 13 fixed to the motor-driven shaft 15. The joints 10 between the slip-ring halves are preferably inclined to the axis of the shaft 15 so as to obtain a smooth transfer of the brushes from one half of. the ring to the other.
