Abstract

635,624. Dynamo-electric machines. VAUGHAN, R. C. April 21, 1947, No. 10584. [Class 35] A miniature D.C: motor has a non-magnetic rotating armature 4 carrying windings and enclosing a completely cylindrical iron core 10 which is freely mounted on the motor spindle to allow slow rotation under the influence of friction. The motor field is supplied by a horseshoe permanent magnet 1, and the armature windings are secured by binding in slots, the armature. body being mounted on the spindle by means of discs 6, 7. The windings are connected to a commutator 9 whose segments 11 are clamped on to an insulating layer 13, e.g. of silk thread, by insulating washers 12. The horse-shoe magnet may be replaced by an annular magnet concentric with the rotor.
