In a permanent magnet motor having a cylindrical rotor of non-magnetic material enclosing the magnet 1 and carrying windings which lie as non-intersecting chords at each of the circular end faces of the rotor, the torque is increased due to these end face windings interacting with the leakage flux. A diametricallymagnetized cylindrical permanent magnet 1 is secured in an iron housing member 2 and enclosed by carrier 8, 19 which carries windings 9 and rotates with shaft 20. The windings are supplied through brushes 12, 14 which are subdivided into a number of tongues and bear on commutator 21, both brushes being mounted on cover 16 but one being insulated therefrom by block 18.
