Abstract

928,437. Speed-responsive switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 26, 1962 [Feb. 3, 1961], No. 4174/61. Class 38 (5). A switch has a moving contact 10 carried by an L-shaped spring arm 4 pivoted at 16 to the insulating switch body 1 and carrying an insulating stud 14 on one limb 15, the stud 14 being engageable by an axially displaceable collar 21 of a centrifugal mechanism 18 (secured to the rotor shaft 19 of a motor 20) to deflect the contact-carrying limb 15 towards a fixed contact 11. The other limb 8 of arm 4 is twisted out of the general plane of the spring arm by anchoring it to a surface 9 of an abutment on the switch body 1 which surface is inclined relatively to the general plane of the arm when the latter is bearing against a backstop 5. Movement of the limb 15 to operate contacts 10, 11 increases the torsion in limb 8 by a determinable amount, so that the spring arm 4 can be pre-set during assembly of the switch to operate the switch at a precise motor speed. A hollow cylindrical extension 22 of the moulded switch body 1 shrouds the contacts 10, 11 and the centrifugal mechanism 18.
