Abstract
804,644. Centrifugal switches. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Sept. 5, 1955 [Sept. 7, 1954], No. 25918/54. Class 38 (5). A switch for controlling a motor starting winding comprises a spring plate 10 mounted under compression on the rotor end ring 12 by the engagement of fulcrum surfaces 15 on the plate with V-shaped notches 16 formed in fan blades 11. Pairs of lugs 19 at each end of the plate 10 carry lead weights 18 so that as the motor speed increases the plate moves from the rest position, Fig. 1, to an unstable position, Fig. 4, in which the plate has been moved overcentre and arrested by abutment faces 25 on the fan blades 26. The plate 10, when in the Fig. 1 position, engages a rubbing plate 24 on a stationary contact-carrying spring plate 22 and maintains contact 23 against a fixed contact 21, the spring 22 being biased to open the contacts when plate 10 snaps to the Fig. 4 position.
