[Also in Group XXXVII] A resilient hollow rotor containing a liquid is attached to a rotatable shaft and a disc also attached to the shaft extends radially into the liquid, a switch being arranged near the rotor with its actuating arm so disposed as to deform and tilt the rotor when stationary, the liquid and the disc reacting at a predetermined speed to restore the rotor to its normal position and so displace the arm and operate the switch. The rotor 11 has two identical halves 12, 13 with hub portions 15, 16 on the shaft 8, the disc 20 being arranged between the hubs. The halves 12, 13 are held together by a ring 18 which passes through clevises 24 carried by a ring 22 pivoted at 23. A snap-action switch 25 is secured to the casing 2 and its actuating arm 26 bears on one of the clevises 24. When stationary, the rotor is tilted as shown in Fig. 1, but at the predetermined speed it becomes horizontal, i.e. it lies in a plane at right angles to the shaft axis. The liquid is preferably a silicone oil or grease. In a modification, Fig. 8, the ring 18 engages a bearing 41 on a U-shaped lever 38 pivoted at 39 to a fixed bracket 36, the arm 26 engaging a similar bearing 41 opposite the first.
