820,288. Centrifugal speedometers; indicating apparatus. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Oct. 4, 1956 [Oct. 7, 1955], No. 30310/56. Classes 106 (3) and 106 (4)] A centrifugal speed-indicating means has translucent weights 44 rotatably carried on pivoted arms 24, 25 and a transparent window 21 having radially spaced calibrations is located adjacent the weights, the arms 24, 25 being formed, at least in part of a light-transmitting material and a source of light 47 being located to transmit light into the arms 24, 25 and through them into the weights 44. As shown in a motor vehicle speedometer, arms 24, 25 are pivoted to a member 40 which is fixed to and rotates with the axis 32. Two struts 28, 29 are pivoted at 26, 27 respectively to arms 24, 25 and at their other ends to a sliding member 30 which slides on axis 32. In operation, centrifugal forces pull the weights 44, 45 outward against the action of a compression spring 42 and these weights describe a circle just below the window 21, thus indicating the speed.
