A driving mechanism for a speedometer comprises a disc-shaped, casing 1, Figs. 1 and 2, having a worm-wheel 2 rotatably mounted therein to drive a worm 18 the axis of which is located parallel to and outside the plane of the pitch circle of the worm-wheel.- The wormwheel 2 is mounted co-axially with the wheel the speed of which is to be measured and carries a rim 5 connected to at least one flexible finger 6 which extends between the spokes. of said wheel. The worm 18 is on a shaft 16 supported in bores 13 of bearings 11 secured by caps 14, 15 in a cylindrical part 9 of the casing 1.
