Abstract

908,521. Silencers. PLANNAIR Ltd. Jan. 27, 1959 [Feb. 4, 1958], No. 3695/58. Class 7(2) [Also in Group XXVI] In an axial-flow blower or compressor comprising an electric motor housing and a rotor hub surrounded by a cylindrical casing so as to provide an annular space for the through flow of fluid, the casing is provided with perforations or small apertures and has out-turned annular flanges at its extreme ends, soft, uncompacted sound-deadening material being accommodated in the annular space between the flanges and pressed against the outer cylindrical surface of the casing by a thin removable cylindrical sleeve the extreme ends of which fit snugly over and are fastened to the peripheral portions of the flanges without projecting axially beyond the flanges. In the two-stage motor-driven axial-flow blower shown, a preferably stranded sound-deadening material 24 such as glass wool or felt surrounds the casing 10 of the blower and is held in place by a sleeve 26 attached to end flanges 12. A large number of countersunk holes 28 are provided in the casing 10. Sound-deadening material 34 is also provided in a perforated inner housing 36. The blower may be of single-stage type. Specification 751,954 is referred to. According to the Provisional Specification, the sound-deadening material may be silk.
