[Also in Group XXII] In a stud wrench comprising a head 1 having a bore 2 in which three or more axially aligned rollers 3 are rotatably mounted, the internal surface of the bore 2 being provided with a corresponding number of angularly spaced ramps 4 such that when the head is rotated relative to the stud, the rollers tend to ride up the ramps, the head is so formed that the parallel rollers can be moved a considerable distance radially outwards to enlarge the gripping bore and a cage 10 is located within the head to position the rollers roughly, resilient means being connected to the cage and arranged to engage frictionally with the stud. The cage is formed with a series of spaced slots to receive the rollers 3, spring-loaded balls 15 being mounted in recesses between the slots, the balls 15 acting radially inwards against the stud. The cage 10 is retained against longitudinal displacement in the bore 2 by an annular washer 11. The head 1 is detachably secured to the handle 17 by a ball catch 22 which fits in an annular groove in the handle. The handle is provided with a transverse bore 23 to receive a tommy bar. The bore at the end of the handle is square so that it can accommodate a right-angled tommy bar or wrench. Specification 869,527 is referred to.
