Abstract

891,632. Jointing by stamping. HELLERMANN Ltd. Oct. 5, 1960 [Oct. 3, 1959], No. 36889/59. Class 83 (4). A crimping tool comprises a pair of co-operating die members, each of which has a die face, and at least one of which has a cam follower surface and is pivotally mounted intermediate its ends having its die face forward of the pivot and its cam follower surface rearward thereof, and a cam mechanism arranged to engage said cam follower surface to effect closure of said die faces one towards the other. The crimping head of the tool comprises two spring-loaded die members 12 and 13 pivoted at 14 and 15 respectively to the fork extensions of a frame 16. The rear ends of the die members are formed with cam follower surfaces 20, 21 which cooperate with the cam head 22 of a wedge mechanism consisting of a slide 23 of square cross-section secured to a shank 24 around which is located a sleeve 25 which is in screw-threaded engagement with the frame 16 and secured on the shank by a nut 26. A thrusts washer 36 centralizes the slide 23 in its guideway in the frame 16. A cap 28 secured to the sleeve is provided with a hole 32 for a tommy bar for rotating the sleeve. Alternatively, a ratchet device with a transverse handle (not shown) is provided. A handle for steadying the tool while the cap is turned may be attached to a ring 34 secured to the frame 16.
