Abstract
905,389. Surgical syringes. PHILLIPS PTY. Ltd., N.J. Jan. 27, 1961 [Oct. 31, 1959], No. 37021/59. Class 81 (2). A drenching gun comprises a pump cylinder 2 with a reciprocable plunger 11, a coaxial inlet chamber 4 and an outlet chamber 6 communicating with the inlet chamber, diaphragms 25, 30 being provided in the inlet and outlet chambers, respectively, to close an inlet chamber supply pipe 5 and open an outlet chamber discharge pipe 8 on a pressure stroke of the plunger and to open the supply pipe and close the discharge pipe on a suction stroke of the plunger. The cylinder 2 is supported in a holder 1 which also forms part of a hand grip including a bellcrank lever 13, 17 for reciprocating the plunger. The pressure stroke of the plunger is effected manually, the diaphragm 25 in the inlet chamber then closing the supply pipe 5 so that liquid flows from the cylinder through the inlet chamber and a connecting pipe 7 to the outlet chamber 6. The outlet chamber comprises a bellows 31 carrying the diaphragm 30 and mounted on the discharge pipe 8 and is protected by a cape 33. Passage of liquid into the outlet chamber lifts the diaphragm 30 from the discharge pipe so that liquid flows to a nozzle 9 via the discharge pipe 8 and tubing 34 which, according to the Provisional Specification, may be transparent. The bell-crank lever on release is returned to its starting position by a spring 16 to effect the suction stroke of the plunger. The diaphragm 25 which is connected by a perforated bellows 26 over the end of the supply pipe is then raised from the supply pipe so that liquid flows through the bellows perforations into the cylinder. The diaphragms may be made of neoprene.
