Abstract

691,439. Electromagnetically-actuated reciprocating pumps. NEWMARK, J. M., and NEWMARK, A. S. Aug. 22, 1951 [May 3, 1951], No. 10372/51. Class 102 (i). A spraying device comprises a barrel 19 integral with a housing 2 that contains an electromagnet 4 and an armature 7. The lower end of the housing is attached to a handle 11 that contains a switch 12 actuated by a trigger 18. The housing 2 has a ledge 6 on which the armature pivots freely and its upward movement is limited bv a stop 8. The armature contacts a push rod 26' sliding in a bearing 25 and contacting a pump plunger 26 loaded by a spring 27. The pump cylinder sleeve 26 is mounted in the barrel 19 and retained by a plug 37 in which is formed the sprayer nozzle 38. The sleeve 28 has an inlet port 31 controlled by the plunger and an outlet valve 35. The barrel 19 is secured to a cap 44 for the liquid container 45 into which depends the suction pipe 40. An adjustable screw 10 carries a spring-loaded plunger to act as a buffer for the return stroke of the armature. By removing the plug 37, the parts are easily removable for cleaning. A passage 46 returns to the container leakage past the piston.
