Abstract
An austenitic alloy particularly for valves in internal-combustion engines contains:- .C.0.30- 1.0% .Mn.3.0 -16.0% .Si.0.50- 3.0% .Cr.12.0 -25.0% .Ni.1.0 - 8.0% .N2.0.03- 0.50% .Fe and usual impurities.balance High hardness and strength are developed by solution treatment within the range 1900-2200 DEG F. for a time dependent on the size of material being treated, followed by quenching in air, oil or water and ageing within the range 1200-1600 DEG F.
