Abstract

898,575. Variable throw cranks. TURNER BROTHERS (BIRMINGHAM) Ltd. Feb.11, 1960 [Feb. 25, 1959], No. 6469/59. Class 80 (3). [Also in Group XXVI] In a variable throw crank, particularly for presses, wherein the connecting rod 10 embraces an eccentric bush 13 which is rotatably adjustable on the crank pin 11, the bush 13 is locked in its adjusted position by one or more keys 17 slidably mounted in each crank cheek, the keys 17 in each cheek being moved axially into or out of engagement with recesses 19 in the bush by rotation of a ring 20 having a multi-start coarse internal thread engaging a lug on each key. The ring 20 on each crank cheek is releasably locked against rotation by the end of a screw 28 threaded into a ring 25 fixed to the crank cheek. The lug 22, Fig. 5 (not shown), on each key 17 is shaped to co-operate with either of the two rings 20, the two threads being of opposite hand. Tommy bar holes may be provided in the rings 20 and in rings 29 secured to the bush 13.
