729,838. Adjustable-throw cranks. BUTTERLEY CO., Ltd. Nov. 18, 1953 [Dec. 5, 1952], No. 30953/52. Class 80 (3). [Also in Group XXVI] In an adjustable-throw crank mechanism, wherein the crank-pin d carries a split eccentric bush c embraced by the connector a, a locking ring g slidably keyed on the crank - pin cheek i is formed with teeth on its side face engaging corresponding teeth f on the bush c, and is axially moved to engage or release the lock by a left-hand nut h threaded on the cheek. The interengaging edges of the nut and ring are peripherally interrupted, as at k, to allow insertion of one within the other. A saddle key n engages a flat on the cheek i to prevent turning of the ring g and is held by a screw o and lock-nut p. A spring s in a recess around the screw o engages a locking key q which is held beneath the lock-nut, the free end of the key engaging one of a number of recesses r in the nut h to lock the latter. To adjust the bush c, 'the nut p is slackened until the key q is moved by its spring s clear of the recesses r and the nut h is then turned to release the bush. The nut h and bush c may be turned by a claw spanner. There may be saddle keys at opposite sides of the, crankshaft, and each may have a locking screw and associated parts as described above.
