Abstract

A polishing composition comprises by weight 0,1 to 25 parts of a propellent and 99,9 to 75 parts of a polishing composition consisting essentially of (by wt.): 10 to 30% of a finely divided abrasive, 5 to 16% of a wax, 2 to 12% of a dialkyl-polysiloxane, 40 to 75% of a hydrocarbon solvent, 1 to 4% of an ethylene glycol monoalkyl ether having 1 to 7 C atoms in the alkyl group, and 1 to 10% of an amorphous oleophilic thickener dispersible in the solvent. Ingredients specified are: waxes-paraffin, polyethylene and oxidized polyethylene, microcrystalline and oxidized micro-crystalline waxes, carnauba, beeswax, hydrogenated castor oil, ouricury and petrolatum; siloxanes-dimethylpolysiloxane; solvents-mineral spirits; abrasives-diatomaceous earth and alumina; propellents-nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, isobutane, dichlorodifluoromethane, and dichlorotetrafluoroethane; thickeners-Na, Al, Zn and Pb oleates, the dimethyldioctadecyl salt of montmorillonite clay, colloidal silica and aluminium naphthenate; glycol ethers-ethylene glycol monobutyl ether. A small amount of isoamyl acetate may also be added. Examples are given. Uses-for polishing household enamelware and car bodies. U.S.A. Specification 2,524,590 is referred to.
