Abstract

The water absorbing capacity of exfoliated vermiculite is reduced by treatment with a wax. Specified waxes are beeswax, tallow, ceresine, spermaceti and paraffin wax. The wax is dissolved in a solvent, applied to the vermiculite, and the solvent removed. A dye can also be present, and the waxed vermiculite is a suitable aggregate in concrete or plaster.
