893,543. Stuffing-box substitutes. KLING- LER, K. A. June 26, 1958, No. 20533/58. Class 122 (5). [Also in Group XXXIV] An oil seal for a railway vehicle journal-box comprises an annular flexible diaphragm 19 of U-shaped cross-section, one leg of which carries a flexible yielding elastomeric sealing- ring 14 and the other leg is in sealing contact with a wall 3 of the journal-box. The sealing ring 14 is held against the journal by an encircling garterspring 15. An oil absorbent collar 10 is located on the side of the sealing-ring remote from the oil and is reinforced by metal rings 11, 12 which, together with the sealing-ring 14, are carried by a rigid support-ring 13 attached to the diaphragm 19. The ring 13 carries a plurality of guide fingers 17, preferably of nylon. Removable clips 21 hold the diaphragm 19 in sealing contact with the wall 3 of the journal box.
