Abstract
893,140. Positive clutches. WAY-HOPE, J. G. A. Oct. 26, 1960 [Dec. 2, 1959], No. 40981/59. Class 80 (2). In a positive clutch for an outboard motor wherein a driving member 11 is driven from an input shaft 15 through bevel gears 14, 13 and has arcuate slots 26 engageable by vanes 28 fast with an aligned output member 16, clutch engagement is cushioned by oil 32 which is set in motion by vanes 30 fast with the driving member 11 to initiate rotation of the driven member 16 prior to clutch engagement. The driven member 16 is biased towards the engaged position by a spring 20 and is moved right to disengage the clutch by upward movement of a pull rod 22 fast with a fork member 21 carrying at its lower end a roller 23 which rides on a cam surface 24 on the casing 12.
