Abstract

1,047,815. Change-speed gear; friction clutches. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 19, 1963], No. 30460/64. Headings F2C and F2D. [Also in Divisions D1 and H2] A pole-changing motor 10 driving a washing- machine is operated at low speed by actuating switch 66, a sun-wheel 34 driving planet pinion carrier 32 at reduced speed. The member 32 is coupled through free-wheel device 36 to output shaft 38 and drum 64. Actuation of switch 70 operates the motor at high speed, shaft 24 driving spring 44 and weight 48 which moves into its outer radial position when driven at the higher speed, against the force of spring 49. Stop yoke 54 engages in slot 50 so that spring 44 is drawn together and is applied tightly to annular body 42. The shaft 38 now rotates with shaft 24, which corresponds to a high transmission ratio, the shaft 38 overtaking the member 32 due to the free-wheel device 36. Actuation of switch 74 returns the motor to low-speed operation after a predetermined period. The speed of shaft 24 falls to such a value that the weight 48 tends to return to its radially inner position, but is held in its outer position since yoke 54 engages slot 50. The speed of shaft 38 is now determined by low motor speed and high transmission ratio, which corresponds to a value between the minimum and maximum values of output speed. As long as the motor 10 supplies torque, the slot 50 remains in engagement with the yoke 54. Only after the motor is de-energized can the weight 48 return to its radially inner position.
