Abstract

952,474. Toothed gearing; clutch control. ZAHNRAEDERFABRIK RENK A.G. Sept. 16, 1960, No. 31896/60. Headings F2L and F2Q. In an epicyolio gear comprising a planet carrier 3 attached to a driving shaft 1, planets 6, fixed annulus 7 and driven sun gear 8, a multiple disc clutch K is interposed between the sun gear 8 and an output shaft 25, the clutch K being engaged below a predetermined speed and being adapted to disengage at and above the predetermined speed. A sleeve 13, having internal splines 14 and external splines 15, transmits the drive to an inner clutch disc carrier 17. The clutch is held engaged by fluid pressure applied through passages 23 to a piston 21. At the predetermined speed, an automatic speed-responsive device reduces the fluid pressure and the clutch becomes disengaged by springs 22. The annulus 7 is resiliently mounted in the housing by means of a cylindrical elastic element 9. The invention is applied to the transmission between a turbine and a generator.
