Abstract

889,123. Vehicle control gears. MORRIS MOTORS Ltd. Sept. 29, 1960 [July 11, 1959], No. 23900/59. Class 79(5). In a power unit arranged transversely at the front of a vehicle for driving the front wheels and comprising a clutch, a manually controlled change speed gear and a final drive differential gear all incorporated en bloc with the engine, there is provided a rigid hollow member F, secured to and extending rearwardly from the sump G of the power unit and supported at its rear end upon the vehicle underframe or body structure, constituting a driving-torque reaction arm and housing for a remote control gearshift shaft L. The power unit A is carried by rubber mountings B upon a detachable sub-frame C that carries at D and E the front wheel-suspension of the vehicle. The rear end of the member F is supported by a rubber mounting H which is carried by the vehicle underframe or body structure which is reinforced by a transversely arranged box section member K. The gearshift lever L is connected via a linkage M to the internal control mechanism of the change-speed gear which is situated in the sump G of the power unit.
