Abstract

The invention comprises the compounds of formula <FORM:0888684/IV (b)/1> where at least 2 of the benzene nuclei A, B and C contain one or more nitro substituents, and their preparation by oxidation of the compounds <FORM:0888684/IV (b)/2> similarly nitro-substituted. Specified modes of oxidation are with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of glacial acetic acid as solvent at, e.g. 20 DEG C.-120 DEG C.; with hydrogen peroxide in nitrobenzene as solvent at 120 DEG C.-15 DEG C.; with perbenzoic acid; and with nitric acid at temperature not appreciably above room temperature.
