Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0927497/IV(a)/1> and the N-oxides thereof; and their production by reacting 5-nitrofurfural with a methyl-quinoline in an acid medium at elevated temperature. The N-oxides are obtained by oxidation with per-acids, e.g. perbenzoic acid. The compounds of the invention exhibit bacteriostatic properties.
