Abstract
Sulphanilamide compounds of the formula <FORM:1100915/C2/1> wherein R is hydrogen or a C1-6 alkanoyl or a benzoyl radical are prepared by reacting 3 - chloro - 1,2,5 - thiadiazole with sulphanilamide or a C1-6 alkanoyl or benzoyl sulphanilamide in the presence of an acid-binding agent such as pyridine or a -picoline. The 3-chloro-1,2,5-thiadiazole may be prepared by hydrolysing 3 - chloro - 4 - cyano - 1,2,5 - thiadiazole with strong mineral acid to give 3-chloro-1,2,5-thiadiazole-4-carboxylic acid which is then decarboxylated by heating, suitably by refluxing in o-dichlorobenzene.
