Abstract
Peracetic acid is prepared by oxidizing liquid acetaldehyde with oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a mixture of two or more of a chloride of copper, a bromide of copper and cupric ammonium chloride, or a mixture of two or more of a chloride of cobalt and a bromide of cobalt. Temperatures of - 30 DEG to +60 DEG C. are mentioned, preferably 5-40 DEG C. An inert diluent may be used. Generally, 0.002 to 0.20% by weight of catalyst is used based on the reaction mixture.
