Abstract

Peroxides of methyl ethyl ketone are obtained by reacting the ketone with aqueous hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an acid catalyst and then mixing with at least a slight excess of aqueous alkali and with sufficient inert diluent to give a peroxidic solution of desired concentration. The catalyst may be mineral or organic acid e.g. acetic, or an ion exchange resin in the acidic form. Preferred conditions are, reaction temperature not to exceed 30 DEG C., and alkali and diluent e.g. dimethyl phthalate, to be added simultaneously. Specification 827,511 is referred to.
