Abstract

Monoperoxyphosphoric acid H3PO5 is produced by reacting hydrogen peroxide with polyphosphoric acids containing phosphorus pentoxide at temperatures between 10 and 40 DEG C. Concentrated aqueous hydrogen peroxide is preferably used with polyphosphoric acids containing at least 76% of phosphorus pentoxide, the reactants are mixed together for a period of 2-3 hours. The reactants may be premixed at temperatures below 10 DEG C. when reaction does not take place, and are then heated to above 10 DEG C. to effect the reaction. Dilute aqueous solutions, e.g. 30% hydrogen peroxide, are also used and these give rise to some orthophosphoric acid in the product. The reaction products may be diluted with water or orthophosphoric acid.
