Abstract
Mesityl oxide peroxide, i.e bis-3,5,5-trimethyl-1,2-dioxolanyl peroxide, is made by reacting diacetonyl alcohol with hydrogen peroxide in acidic medium. In an example, the reactants are mixed with sulphuric acid and the mixture is left to stand for 65 hours and crystals of mesityl oxide peroxide separate out.
