Abstract
Hydroxyl group-containing 1,4 - dichloro-anthraquinones, are made by diazotizing a compound of the general formula:- <FORM:1029448/C4-C5/1> in which X stands for a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom, alkyl, alkoxy or hydroxyl radical, and Y stands for a hydrogen atom, a substituent of the type of X, or a cyano, carboxyl, sulphonic acid, sulphonamide, carbonamide or carboxylic acid ester group, and subsequently boiling the diazonium compound, preferably in dilute aqueous sulphuric acid of 50-80% concentration. Temperatures of 80 DEG to 150 DEG C. are required and the addition of small amounts of copper salts may be made.
