Abstract
The invention comprises aromatic thiolsulphonic acid-dichloro-monofluoro-methyl esters of the general formula ArSO2SCFCl2 wherein Ar stands for a phenyl or naphthyl radical substituted by halogen atoms or by alkyl, nitro, carboxyl, acylamino or alkoxy radicals. The novel compounds may be made by reacting an aromatic sulphinic acid with a fluorodichloro-methane sulphenic acid halide in an aqueous solution or in an organic solvent, the sulphinic acid being used in the form of a salt or in the form of the free acid when used in the presence of an acid-binding agent. Sulphinic acids mentioned are benzene-p-toluene, p-chlorobenzene, m-carboxy-benzene-, p-acetamino-benzene-, 4-methoxy-3-nitrobenzene-, 4-nitrobenzene- and naphthalene-sulphinic acids. Detailed examples are given. Specifications 752,255 and 781,227 are referred to.ALSO:Fungicidal compositions comprise an aromatic thiolsulphonic acid-dichloro-monofluoro-methyl ester of the general formula ArSO2SCFCl2, wherein Ar stands for a phenyl or naphthyl radical substituted by halogen atoms or by alkyl, nitro, carboxyl, acylamino or alkoxy radicals, together with a solid or liquid extender or carrier. Detailed examples illustrate the use of aqueous solutions of esters of the above formula in which Ar is phenyl, p-chlorophenyl-, p-methylphenyl, p-acetamidophenyl, 3-nitro-4-chloro - phenyl-, 2 - methyl - 5 - nitrophenyl-, and 2,5-dichlorophenyl, and the use of the first three mentioned above mixed with talc.
