882,845. Pit props. GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE STERKRADE A.G. Dec. 12, 1957 [Dec. 12, 1956], No. 38710/57. Class 20(2) A telescopic pit prop comprises upper and lower members 2, 1 secured by a clamp 3 on part of which is a raising device 8, 22, 11, while other parts 24 of the clamp are so constructed to afford no support to the raising device. Where the member 2 is hexaganol one end of the claw 8 is provided with a jaw 22 which engages one face of the member 2 while the other end is shaped to seat within two faces as shown. Welded integral ribs 24 and guides 26 help to position the raising wedge 11 above the clamp wedge 5. When square section members are used the arms of the tilting claw 8 are positioned on faces other than that used by wedge 5. A sloped top or separate cover for the clamp 3 may replace the ribs 24. Raising devices acting on the prop head and in the form of spindles are mentioned. Specification 882,846 is referred to.
