Class 20(2) In a telescopic pit prop for use in steep seams, the upper part 1 of the prop is provided with a separate head 7 having a sleeve 5 which fits over the part 1 and is adjusted by a wedge 8 passing through slots 6 in the sleeve and bearing on a plate 2 secured to the part 1. The plate 2 carries a chain 4 for connecting to other props. The plate 7 has a recess 7<SP>1</SP> and the plate 2 a hole 2<SP>1</SP> to prevent the wedge 8 from bending under load.
