Class 89(2) [Also in Group X] A pit-prop having telescopic parts i, o, is locked by a collar c resting on the outer part o and clamped to the part i by a wedge m forced between wedges' w<SP>1</SP>, w<SP>2</SP> pressed against inclined - surfaces on a pressure-pad p bearing against the part i. A spindle s passes through and has a head f bearing on the wedge m, which is driven between the wedges w<SP>1</SP>, w<SP>2</SP> by hammer-blows on the head f and retained in position by a nut n. The spindle s is guided in slots in the collar c.
