Abstract

956,967. Ball-and-rings mills. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. March 20, 1961 [March 22, 1960], No. 10047/60. Heading (Also in Division B3] A grinding ring for a ball mill comprises a circumferentially sectionalised track member, a ring carrying the sections of the track member and positioning means serving to adjustably locate the sections of the track member in relation to the carrier ring and to one another, and solid filler material which is initially in plastic condition interposed between the track member and carrier ring. As shown, the grinding ring comprises a carrier ring 13 having an inner face 19 of channel form and a track member 10 having six similar sections the lower face 23 of each section being substantially parallel to the track face 20, the ring 13 being provided at the junctions of the track sections with recesses 30, 31 in which are arranged to slide wedges 34, 35 protruding into recesses 28, 29 in the track sections. The wedges provide surfaces 36, 37 co-operating with complementary surfaces 42, 43 of the recesses 28, 29. The wedges are secured to bolts 40, 41 having clamping nuts 16, 17 at their lower ends. The track member 10 and carrier ring 13 are spaced from each other by filler material 39 which may be concrete, asbestos putty or iron cement. Two modifications are described, in one of which the wedges are dispensed with. Specification 523,753 is referred to.
