961,723. Yielding mine arches. APPLICATIONS SCIENTIFIQUES, TECHNIQUES, INDUSTRIELLES ET COMMERCIALES. Oct. 12, 1960 [Oct. 16, 1959; April 19, 1960], No. 35020/60. Heading E1E. A yielding mine arch, Fig. 3, consists of segments C, P which are clamped together by a support A having nuts e 1 , e 2 , clamps S 1 , S 2 , a stay E and, if desired, wedges C 1 , C 2 arranged as shown, the flanges of the member P being grooved at 4 to accommodate the support A. In a modification, the U-shaped support A is replaced by opposed plates which are bolted together and provided with suitable flanges for engaging the arch segments, see Figs. 4-9 (not shown). In a further modification, Fig. 11, the support 15 is recessed at 16 and bolted to a key 18, a slotted key 19 and a stay 21 composed of two arms 23 bolted together. If desired, the members 18, 19 of the embodiment of Fig. 11 may be dispensed with and the member 15 replaced by a strap of round iron, see Figs. 13 and 13a (not shown).
