Abstract
810,036. Pit props. THOMAS & BALDWINS Ltd., R. July 26, 1956 [April 27, 1955], No. 12180/55. Class 20(2) A telescopic pit prop is extended by a cam 35 engaging a clamp 32 resting on the outer prop member 20 and adapted to be turned by a handle 37, about a pin 36 engaged with one of a row of apertures 34 in the inner prop member 21. When the head 26 of the prop engages the mine roof the clamp 32 is tightened to retain the prop extended and the cam and pin 36 are removed so as to be available to extend another prop. A detachable cradle 26 supports a wooden block 27 which engages spikes in the cradle. The cradle may be connected by a swivel joint to two props arranged as an inverted V. A disc on an axial rod fixed inside and to the base of the outer prop member engages projections on the inner prop member to prevent complete withdrawal of the latter.
