Abstract

881,258. Casting composite articles. NATIONAL LEAD CO. Dec. 7, 1959, No. 41544/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 83 (1). Molten metal is pressure-die-cast on to a metal liner of higher melting-point and having an outer surface provided with a multitude of irregular protrusions and interstices. The roughened surface is preferably produced by centrifugally casting the liner in a refractory lined mould, and the liner is heated before placing in the die. The manufacture of brake drums and engine cylinders with ferrous metal liners and cast-on light metal such as aluminium or magnesium is described.
