Abstract

A method of adding magnesium to molten cast iron comprises placing a layer of magnesium metal in a ladle, covering the magnesium layer with a layer of solid ferrous metal, and then pouring in the molten cast iron. The magnesium, in the form of clippings, may be sandwiched between two layers of steel punchings which may be at room temperature when added to the ladle. Specification 900,956 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 630,070.
