Abstract

A method of adding a magnesium containing alloy to molten cast iron comprises placing a layer of the magnesium-containing alloy in a ladle, covering this layer with a layer of solid ferrous metal, and then pouring in the molten cast iron. The magnesium-containing alloy may be sandwiched between two layers of steel punchings which may be at room temperature when added to the ladle. Specification 900,957 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 630,070.
