Abstract

1,274,177. Making composite billets. SHOWA ALUMINIUM K.K. 19 April, 1971 [9 Sept., 1970], No. 24888/71. Headings B3A and B3F. A composite billet is made by forming a plurality of projections on a core 7, placing the core in a mould 4, and pouring molten metal 8 into the mould so as to clad the core. The process may be carried out continuously, the core 7 being heated by a burner 5 to about 400‹ C. before entering the mould. The projections on the core 7 extend longitudinally theralong and are formed by extruding the core. Both the core 7 and the cladding 9 may be made of an aluminium alloy.
