Abstract
1347894 Moulds INSTITUT ELEKTROSVARKI IMENI E O PATONA AKADEMII NAUK UKRAINSKOI SSR 19 April 1971 [23 March 1970] 25440/71 Heading B3F Castings with cored through or blind bores are manufactured by electroslag remelting. The moulds used include cooled cores extending over only part of the vertical extent of the mould. In Fig. 3, a hollow ingot with a blind bore is manufactured in a mould 1 having a core 2 comprising a water-jacket 3 and solid centre 4. The core 2 extends from the mould base-plate although in another embodiment (not shown) it extends from the mould wall. Several cores may be used (not shown) to manufacture a blank for pressing multi-channel tubes. When making a crankweb for a ship's diesel engine a mould 1 (Fig. 8) is provided with a curved baseplate and a cooled core 2 extending between two opposing mould walls. An electrode 9 has a hole through which the core passes.
