Abstract
PURPOSE: The mold which comprises fitting the main core and sub-core of the specific shapes in the two-split outer molds whose cross section has a circular space and which is simultaneously castable the piston provided with a narrow insulation gap between the pin-boss part and the inside circumferential surface of the skirt part.
CONSTITUTION: A main core 5 is inserted into the space S of two-split outer dies 1 and its pin-boss part-forming recesses 9 are opposed to the through-hole 3 of the outer die. Thence, a sub-core 10 is inserted into the dies through the through-hole of the outer sides and the end edge outside circumference of its partition part 11 is fitted to the inside circumferntial edge of the recesses 9. At the same time, the positioning pin 14 provided at the end of the pin-hole-forming protruding part 13 is engaged in the hole 15 of the main core. If molten metal is poured into the cavity of the mold assembled in this way, a casting 19 is formed and the piston provided with a narrow insulation gap S4 between the pin-boss part 16 and the inside circumferenital surface of the skirt part 18 is readily obtained.
