Abstract
PURPOSE:A mold for continuous casting which consists in forming an Ni-Cr-Al intermediate layer and MgO-ZrO2 refractory material layer of respectively predetermined thicknesses on the inside surface of the casting hollow part of a mold made of copper or copper alloy and which has considerably prolonged mold life as compared to usual molds. CONSTITUTION:An Ni-Cr-Al intermediate layer 2 of 150-500mu thicknesses is formed on the inside surface of the casting hollow part of a mold body 1 made of copper or copper alloy. Further, an Mg-ZrO2 refractory material layer 3 of 100- 300mu thickness is formed on this intermediate layer 2 surface. Said intermediate layer 2 is formed by a melt-spraying method using a commercial melt-spraying material compounded usually with an alloy material of Ni-Cr and Al. The alloy material of this case uses, for example, the one of 90-95wt%:5-10wt% Ni-Cr alloy: Al. Also, the commercial melt-spraying material compounded similarly with MgO and ZrO2 is used for forming the refractory material 3. Here, the material of 20-30wt%:70-80wt% MgO:ZrO2 is desirable.
